04/14/2026 In August 2025, USCIS announced a return to a stricter standard of reviewing green card applications. Based on our experience, additional scrutiny most often arises in the following situations: • discrepancies between Form I-485 and previously filed forms • inconsistencies in address history, travel history, or family information • travel to the country of alleged persecution after being granted asylum • criminal history or other factors affecting admissibility • other changes that are not reflected or explained in the green card application Even minor inconsistencies may result in additional review or an interview. In our practice, before filing Form I-485, we always cross-check the application against the previously filed asylum case materials. Before filing, it is important to: • ensure all information matches prior filings • carefully complete address and travel history • prepare explanations in advance for any discrepancies ❗️USCIS compares the current application with information already in the file.
