How long does it take to receive compensation after an accident?

02/18/2026 One of the most common questions after a car accident: “When will I get paid?” The honest answer - it depends on the situation. What affects the timeline 🔹 1. Medical treatment As long as you are undergoing treatment, the case is usually not finalized. It is important to understand the full extent of your injuries, recovery prognosis, and future expenses. If you settle too early, you cannot later request additional compensation. 🔹 2. The true extent of injuries Minor soft tissue injuries may resolve more quickly. Serious injuries, surgeries, and rehabilitation take time. In our practice, we have often seen situations where a person believed their injury was minor and did not want to “delay the process.” Later, it turned out the consequences were long-term: chronic pain, limited mobility, and the need for additional treatment. ❗️Once a settlement is signed, the amount cannot be revised. 🔹 3. Negotiations Sometimes parties reach an agreement relatively quickly. In other cases, it requires extended negotiations, additional documentation, and medical evaluations. 🔹 4. Litigation If no agreement is reached and the case goes to court, the process may take several months to a year or more. ⚖️ Why “fast” is not always “right” A quick payout may seem attractive. But compensation should reflect not only current expenses, but also potential future consequences. By settling too early, a person takes on the risk of undervaluing their injuries. 💬 On average, personal injury cases may take from several months to a year or more, depending on the circumstances. Each case is unique. ❗️Before making any decisions, we strongly recommend discussing your case with an attorney.
